I just heard and replayed your interview by Scott Horton on Antiwar.com. Thank you for some succinct and impassioned analysis of the situation. I agree with your evaluation of the president's comment that "terrrorism is the central issue" clearly indicates that he still does not understand the situation. I myself look at the whole conference as a last ditch attempt of the better people in the administration to "rescue" the president's legacy, but I am afraid that, acting out of egotistical energy he will merely push for action of any kind rather than objective analysis and action, and will as a result hinder, rather than advance, the diplomacy. I also hope that Syria will raise the issue of the Golan Heights and take Secretary Rice at her word the other day that "nobody is going to rule it out of order" (AP article by Mathew Lee and Anne Gearan, "US Seeks to Close Mideast Deal Next Year," Nov 21 06:34 PM US/Eastern).
It will be an interesting 13 and a half months.
